About STIBC

This non-profit professional association was incorporated in 1981. Our Certified professionals benefit from occupational title protection in British Columbia. We are an affiliate of the Canadian Translators, Terminologists and Interpreters Council (CTTIC), the umbrella organization for the associations of translators and interpreters in British Columbia, Alberta (ATIA), Saskatchewan (ATIS), Manitoba (ATIM), Ontario (ATIO), New Brunswick (CTINB), Nova Scotia (ATINS), and Nunavut (Nunattinni Katujjiqatigiit Tusaajinut). The Society has a mutual recognition agreement with the members of CTTIC and Quebec (OTTIAQ) which provides professional, national mobility to its certified members.

Our Vision: STIBC enables British Columbia’s multi-cultural population to flourish unimpeded by language barriers through its valued, internationally recognized translation, interpretation and terminology professionals.

Our Mission: to promote the interests of BC translators and interpreters and to serve the public by applying a Code of Ethics that all members are bound to comply with and by setting and maintaining high professional standards through education and certification.

Our Values: integrity, professional expertise and cultural diversity.

The Society is governed by an elected Board of Directors. Our membership consists of its Founding Members and more than 360 Certified translators and interpreters, certified in over 80 language combinations (for example, translators: 60 unique combinations; court interpreters: 18; conference interpreters: 4), and close to 390 Associate members.

We highly recommend you require certified translators or interpreters for your translation needs. You can contact our members directly by searching the online member directory.
